UN Arabic Language Day

17 December 2021 Categories My Campion

In celebration of UN Arabic Language Day, Year 9 students Miral Antar and Mona Hamidh gave a presentation on Friday 17th December. Established by UNESCO, UN Arabic Language Day is observed annually on 18th December as on this day in 1973  the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language. The Arabic language dates back to over 2500 years and is the 5th most spoken language worldwide with over 400 million people that speak it in the present day.

The presentation began with some traditional music and a video of the activities normally performed on the day.  The girls explained the different dialects and writing styles used in Arabic. In Campion, pupils study the classical Arabic language.
