Year 12 Epidavros Triathlon
Twenty-two Year 12s and three teachers set off on Friday 9th September after school to arrive at the ancient site of Epidavros where we were met by our guide to take us around the Asclepeion, the museum, the ancient stadium where we pretended we were athletes. In the ancient theatre we all had the opportunity to test its amazing acoustics. A stroll around Palaia Epidavros concluded this first day of our trip.
The swimming races took place on Saturday morning. Ms Gargareta and Zach Diassidis participated with eight of my classmates, including myself. We were all very successful despite the heat. The podium for the 12-17 age group was comprised of Campion pupils only! Congratulations to us!
Sunday was the day of Epidavros Triathlon. We cheered Mr Yates and Ms Gargareta at the start of the race and then, having been briefed the previous day all of us, as volunteers, took up our important positions. We handed out cool bottles of water to the competitors, directed the traffic, kept the race route free of people, collected empty plastic bottles for recycling and, at the end, we gave out the medals to the winners. Being very hot and tired we enjoyed some spraying games amongst us to cool down.
Our trip back was quiet, not surprising since everyone had a very full weekend. We would like to thank Ms Kyritsis, Mr Yates, Ms Gargareta and Mrs Rigopoulou for organising our first trip. It was a great start to the two years of IB that await us!
