Year 8 – guided virtual museum tour
We are delighted to announce that the Modern Greek Department will continue to offer cultural activities alongside the school’s academic education despite the adverse circumstances of lockdown. The school believes that it is important to bring pupils into contact with Greek culture and help them develop a love and understanding of Greece.
Therefore, we are organising a virtual guided tour of the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology for all Year 8 pupils. There will be two guided tours, one in Greek and one in English, so as to enable non-Greek speakers to come into contact with Greek heritage and history.
Campion School has offered to cover the cost of pupils’ participation due to the difficult times we are all experiencing.
Pupils will be sent a link and will join on Friday 27rd November during periods 1 & 2. Pupils who study Extra English/Arabic that morning will also be joining.
The greatest inventions of the ancient Greeks*
A guided virtual tour of an exceptional selection of fifty exhibits from the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology (from the robot-servant of Philon to the ‘cinema’ of Heron; from the hydraulic clock of Archimedes to the analog computer of Antikythera) covering the period from 2000 BC up to the end of the ancient Greek world.
Pupils will be able to discover that the technology of the ancient Greeks, just before the end of the ancient world, was shockingly similar to the beginning of our modern technology.
