Due to a deep interest into the concept of bone marrow transplants and its overriding importance in society, in 2021, a small group of pupils in Year 12 decided to contact the organisation “Harise Zoi”, which is a Greek non-profit organisation. Bone marrow transplants are critical for the combat of several diseases such as, but not limited to, leukaemia, thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia. This organisation aims to raise awareness around the stigmatised topic of bone marrow transplants and initiate certain informative and donating events. After contacting Mrs Kostoglou, the person responsible for the recruitment of volunteers from “Harise Zoi”, the current Year 13 students planned a series of school events such as presentations, a chess tournament, trivia and sport games to raise awareness and money to support this organisation. This project has been invaluable in raising awareness across the Campion Community with 35 active volunteers, over 100 participants in the variety of activities organised and Euro 1000 donated to the organisation. What’s most important: 4 members of the Campion community have already officially registered as bone marrow donors. All of us who participated so actively in this project feel very proud of what has already been accomplished from Campion community and we hope that this project will be continued and enriched in the following years.
